You might read the title of this slot and immediately think that waves of cash will immediately be heading your way. That may well be the case, but, unfortunately the word “wave” in the title of this popular Bally slot is a reference to surfing, which is the theme of this game.

The game is set against the backdrop of a beach, which will transport you to warmer temperatures and hopefully a hot run on the reels. The symbols in the Cash Wave slot include Sun cream and a towel, a camper van with surfboard on top and flip flops. Strangely there is one photo symbol in the slot, a rather attractive blonde who I’m presuming is meant to be a surfer (the wave in the background might be a giveaway).

The first thing you’ll notice when you enter this slot is the fact that there are four symbols on show on each of the five reels (as opposed to the usual three). There are 40 win lines and you’ll be able to choose your coin amount, starting as low as just 1c, with the option of playing for hundreds of dollars a spin if that is your wish. The slot has an auto play option, set it and the game will play automatically for 5, 10, 15 or 20 spins.

You’ll win at this slot by landing at least 3 consecutive symbols from left to right on a win line. The top symbol is the photo blonde which pays 500x your coin amount when landing 5 in a row – this symbol is a stacked one on the reels. The camper van, the sun cream and the flip flops all pay 250x. The other symbols in the game are the playing cards from 9 to Ace.

The game has a wild symbol during the main game and a stacked wild during the feature. The feature round is activated when landing the ‘free games’ symbol on reels 2, 3 and 4, these being the only reels it appears on.

You’ll receive 5 free spins in the bonus round, although they are spins with a difference. Each spin will see entire reels becoming wild. The 5th reel is wild for the first spin. Reels 4 and 5 are both wild for spin number two. Spin number three sees reels 3 and 4 being wild. Reels 2 and 3 are both wild for the fourth spin and reels one and two are completely wild for the final spin. This will obviously mean you’ll receive many more wins during this feature – wins actually being guaranteed on spins 4 and 5.

This bonus round is a good one, as it does offer something slightly different to the usual free spins rounds you’ll find at other slots, giving you good opportunities to rack up multiple wins on each spin. Unfortunately, the ‘free spins’ symbol doesn’t appear during the feature, so you’ll not be able to earn extra spins, which might have made the feature a little better. You’ll also not find multipliers during the free spins, the pay chart for the free spins being exactly the same as for the standard spin (although strangely they show them as two separate pay charts in the game instructions under the info button!).

This slot by Bally is not one of the strongest in the companies library. Graphically it is a bit lacking and the game-play is not as fun as some other Bally games such as the Hot Shot progressive slot machine or even the similarly themed Aloha island slot. If there is a saving grace to the game, it’s the bonus feature with stacked wilds that can bring some big wins.

Overall, I’d rate this as an average slot. It’s worth a couple of goes, but it’s lacking some of the fun and flare of other Bally games. By all means try it out, but for me the only real wave here is the one I’ll be giving to bid Cash Wave goodbye.
